Trees hold up a DA when they turn up late: an encroachment nobody drew, or an AIA that doesn't match the final plans. We fix that by getting the tree information to your team first.
Founded by Mathew Phillips, an Australian Army veteran (3RAR, 2008–2015) and AQF Level 5 consulting arborist (Diploma of Arboriculture, Advanced QTRA No. 6067, ISA TRAQ). Synertree is a consulting arborist practice. Here's how we work with architects:
- Pre-AIA. We survey the trees over your survey base plan (GNSS Trimble where needed) and send you the tree data (locations, TPZs and SRZs) as ArborCAD plan sets for every discipline on the project, with early design guidance while the design is still flexible.
- AIA on the submission documents. Once all disciplines finalise their designs, our ArborCAD impact assessment calculates every proposed encroachment, so council sees the full extent of the impacts.
- Project arborist. Tree protection plans and certification from demolition to OC.
- Root mapping (non-destructive). Where a structure, driveway or service must go inside a TPZ, we expose and map roots with Airspade non-destructive excavation, giving you and council evidence of what's actually there. It often allows designs a desktop assessment wouldn't.
- Also: Tree Protection Plans (ArborCAD), tree management plans, pruning specifications, tree risk assessment (QTRA / TRAQ), statements of evidence and pre-purchase due diligence.
We've worked closely with all Sydney LGAs and on councils' own projects. We know what assessors look for, which means fewer RFIs and a faster path to determination. We don't do physical tree work, so our advice stays independent. We Represent the Trees.

Questions about AIAs and arborist reports.
Usually, if your development, demolition, excavation, driveway, services or landscaping comes near a protected tree. That includes trees on neighbouring land and street trees. Councils generally ask for an AIA to AS 4970:2025 with the development application. Send us your plans and we'll tell you whether you need one.
AIAs start from $880 + GST for one tree on a basic development proposal. Arborist reports start from $880 + GST for 1–5 trees. We supply our captured tree data to your architect and landscape architect, and their plans show the tree retention and removal plan. You get a fixed quotation within 24 hours of sending us your details. Reports are typically delivered within 5 business days of the site visit, and fast-track is available on request when a deadline is tight.
Send the site address, a short description of the job and any documents you have: architectural plans, the site survey, and the council's Notice of Determination or request for information if you've received one. Photos of the trees help too. Email everything to info@synertree.com.au.

An AQF Level 5 or AQF Level 8 Arborist completes every report. Synertree's founder and principal consulting arborist is Mathew Phillips. He has practised since 2019, is QTRA and Advanced QTRA registered, holds ISA TRAQ and is a member of Arboriculture Australia.
